Mother's Day is just around the corner! Of course I'm biased, but it's one of my very favorite holidays. To get ahead of the game and do more than just flowers+chocolates (I said more, not instead), here is a top-ten list of some things I'm loving this year that would make perfect gifts for all the Moms you cherish!
TOP TEN MOTHER'S DAY GIFTS FOR 2021:
Box and Bow personalized gift crate. I use these gorgeous artisan-made boxes when I send welcome gifts to all my newborn Mama clients. You can even have the lid engraved - a great way to personalize a keepsake box that will be used long after all its contents are gone. I love their premade boxes and picked out the Celebrate Box (love these cheers glasses!) and Perk Box (coffee-lovers rejoice) as winners.
Luxury sleepwear from Petite Plume. I've bought several sets and can attest to the quality and attention to detail (and you can see my kids in them here for our Christmas photos!) I like these two options for spring/summer and can't get over their matching eye masks.
Sweets from your local bakery. I just discovered Sweet Lavender Bakeshop here in Little Rock and I'm hooked. Her cakes are beautiful AND delicious and you can feel good about upsizing your cake order (a 3-layer cake that feeds 8-10 is only $38) since you are supporting local. (If you're reading this, Matt, I'll take a lemon cake with alternating blueberry and lemon curd filling with strawberry buttercream icing)
Or sweets from a faraway bakery. We had these Galaxy chocolate croissants (sold by Williams Sonoma) over Christmas thanks to the most thoughtful Aunt and they absolutely had me feeling like I was in France. So good, and I love that since they come frozen you can take out only as many as you need (plus a few more since you'll be underestimating their allure) and save the rest for later!
A wardrobe update thanks to Madewell. Nothing says Happy Mother's Day like mom jeans, but the good news is that they're totally trendy right now. I love that Madewell offers free returns if you're an Insider (no cost!) and I've heard they'll hem your jeans for you in the store. Currently sitting in my brand new Madewell jeans as I write this. Give Mom a gift card so she can find her perfect size.
Along with the new clothes, how about some simple and timeless jewelry from Kendra Scott? I like this 18k gold rectangular charm that comes with free personalization so you can get one with each child's name and make a beautiful statement piece.
If Mom likes to spend time in the kitchen, she'll definitely be into specialty flavored olive oils and vinegars. Little Rock is so lucky to have The Robust Olive (in the Pleasant Ridge West Town Center), a
shop that offers a vast curated collection of these change-your-cooking ingredients. I personally love the cinnamon-pear balsamic vinegar and add it to anything from cooked chicken to plain seltzer water. The butter-infused olive oil is also not to be missed.
Just down from The Robust Olive is my favorite place to work out. You can't beat the feeling of community, power, and connection at this hot yoga studio called Nooma. Although it's only in a few cities right now, if you're in Arkansas make your way to a class right away. I don't know which is better - the intentional and encouraging leaders and friends you'll be with, or the benefits of the infrared heat. Buy Mom a class pass or, for the best value, a monthly unlimited membership!
An Aura frame. If you're reading this, photographs are probably important to you. Although nothing beats a beautiful framed fine art print or heirloom album, I love the Aura frames for showing off a multitude of memories. The digital frame has come a long way from those early years and Aura has produced a lovely system that lets you seamlessly share images from your phone or computer to the frame from any distance away. We've purchased these for my grandmother and mother-in-love, and I love having an easy way to share our lives with them.
For the Mom who has it all, do something special in her name. What could be better than supporting other mamas through a donation to Heifer International that empowers women around the world to feed their children? Whatever amount you give provides support for women’s groups, training in gender equality and the means to send girls to school. Matt, if you're listening... you can cancel all my other gifts (except the cake!!) and send all your resources this way.
And a BONUS:
11) This is not just a shameless plug, but something I truly believe in. Gift a motherhood session (with me or any other of the talented photographers in your area) and enjoy the lifetime of remembering just what makes being a Mother so very, very special.
